SESSER MAN IDENTIFIED AS PEDESTRIAN STRUCK, KILLED ON INTERSTATE 57

A 50-year-old Sesser man was killed Sunday night when he was struck by a semi-truck while standing on Interstate 57.

According to the Illinois State Police, around 7:50 p.m. David J. Gayton was standing in the center of three lanes on northbound Interstate 57 at milepost 96 just north of Mt. Vernon when he was struck by a semi traveling northbound on the interstate.

Crash reports say 41-year-old Christopher A. Stafford, of Kentucky, was unable to slow before striking Gayton. The Jefferson County Coroner pronounced Gayton dead at the scene.
