A 23-year-old Mt. Vernon man has been arrested on charges alleging felony sex crimes against two children.

Tyler C. Murray was charged Wednesday in Jefferson County court with Class X predatory criminal sexual assault of a victim under the age of 13 and two counts Class 2 felony aggravated criminal sexual abuse when the accused was at least five years older than the minor victim.

According to Jefferson County State’s Attorney Sean Featherstun, all three counts allege the crimes took place within a 5 to 6 month period against two separate victims.

One case, says Featherstun, was investigated by the Mt. Vernon Police Department while the other was investigated by the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office.

Murray was arrested on the charges Tuesday and remains in the Jefferson County Jail with bail set at $150,000.

He’s next scheduled to appear in court July 17 for a preliminary hearing with his court appointed attorney.

Murray is currently on probation in Jefferson County after he pleaded guilty in September 2017 to felony aggravated battery in a public place.
