J.L. Buford Intermediate School in Mt. Vernon has a new principal. The Mt. Vernon City School Board approved the hiring of Michelle Baxter to be principal at their board meeting Thursday night.

Baxter is from Marion, and city schools superintendent Aletta Lawrence says she believes Baxter will bring an open, compassionate atmosphere to the school.

Baxter previously worked in the New Simpson Hill District in Tunnel Hill.
