MT. VERNON — The Mt. Vernon City Council voted to ratify a contract with three of the six city unions at Monday night’s meeting. The council approved the contract with the laborers, teamsters, and IBEW city workers.

Mt. Vernon City Manager Mary Ellen Bechtel says the city is happy with the length of the contract.

Bechtel says by year four, about $650-thousand will be added to the city’s budget with the agreed salary raise. However, that will be a gradual increase over the four-year contract. She says new city revenue should more than cover the added expense to the city.
