MT. VERNON — A 33-year-old Mt. Vernon man has been sentenced to 3-years in the Illinois Department of Corrections after he pleaded guilty Tuesday in Jefferson County court to one of four felony drug-related charges against him.

Mark A. Twiggs was arrested in May following an operation by investigators with the Mt. Vernon Police Department.

Twiggs was charged with four Class 2 felonies, and pleaded guilty Tuesday to possession of narcotics that reportedly came from a confidential buy from Twiggs on January 15.

Other confidential purchases were made from Twiggs on January 23 and March 22 that each resulted in Class 2 felony charges of delivery of less than 5 grams of meth.

Twiggs was reportedly found in the possession of meth at the time of his arrest, resulting in an additional charge for Class 3 felony possession of less than 5 grams of meth.

The three last charges were dismissed in exchange for Twiggs’ guilty plea to the narcotics charge.
