Fireworks are likely to blame for a fire Wednesday afternoon that damaged a home in Centralia.

According to authorities, they were called out around 4:45 p.m. Wednesday for a fire in the 1400 block of South Poplar.

All available firefighters were called in, but on duty firefighters were able to knock down the fire on the outside of the home before it spread. Wamac police reported hearing fireworks in the area shortly before the fire was discovered.

Damage is estimated at $1,000 and included damage to the siding on the outside of the home, as well as minor smoke damage inside the home.
