Mt. Vernon Police Chief and Fire Chief Set to Retire

MT. VERNON — The city of Mt. Vernon will be looking for a new police chief and fire chief. The city’s fire and police commission accepted the retirement letters of current fire chief Jim Brown and police chief Chris Deichman at Monday’s commission meeting.

Brown’s last day will be Thursday. Assistant Fire Chief Kevin Sargent will serve as the interim chief during the search for Mt. Vernon’s next fire chief.

Deichman’s last day with the police department will be July 31. He has been with the Mt. Vernon Police Department for 29 years.
