In a way if feels as though Tom Petty is still here. Fans are buzzing about the massive box set, An American Treasure, coming on September 28th, and a new Petty video released featuring an unreleased 1982 Heartbreakers song from the Long After Dark sessions. Simply put, “Keep A Little Soul” feels like the good old days, and could almost be described as an amalgam of “Even The Losers” and “Don’t Do Me Like That.”

Ultimate Classic Rock reported, “Petty’s widow Dana and daughter Adria reportedly found ‘a trove’ of unreleased material while going through his storage and worked from there.” Adria told CBS This Morning’s Anthony Mason how they came to program the upcoming box set, explaining, “The criteria was songs that we all felt really said something about dad. It’s such a strange thing to lose someone like him. He was much cooler than people could imagine. And I think a lot of people thought he was pretty cool.”

Tom Petty, who died at age 66 last October 2nd, suffered from coronary artery atherosclerosis and emphysema. Prior to his death, Petty, who was suffering from a broken hip, had taken several pain medications, including Fentanyl, oxycodone and generic Xanax. Other medications included generic (sleep aid) Restoril, and generic Celexa, which treats depression.
