JEFFERSON COUNTY — Jefferson Rural Fire Protection District is reporting that an SUV caught fire Sunday night after being struck by lightening while traveling northbound on Interstate 57.

According to reports, Caleb Thompson was traveling I-57 enroute to Wisconsin from Texas. Thompson was not injured.

The lightning apparently entered the vehicle through its radio antenna that firefighters found was melted.

A hole was burned in the vehicle’s battery and while an electrical fire was contained to the engine compartment, the entire electrical system was damaged.
