JEFFERSON COUNTY — Jury selection is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. Tuesday with trial this week in the Jefferson County embezzlement case against a former Webber Township School District Administrator.

Attorney General Lisa Madigan charged 56-year-old Sabrina Wheatley in November 2016, with Class X felony theft of government property in excess of $100,000, Class 3 felony official misconduct and two Class 4 felony counts of filing fraudulent tax returns.

Madigan alleged that on two or more occasions, the former administrator for the school in Bluford illegally accessed the district’s account for the purposes of stealing more than $100,000.

Wheatley was arrested in Florida, and Madigan’s office sought her extradition to Illinois to face the charges. If convicted, Wheatley faces six to 30 years in prison and the loss of her pension.

The investigation was conducted by the Illinois State Police and the Illinois Department of Revenue’s (IDOR) Criminal Investigations Division.
