JEFFERSON COUNTY — Bail has been set at $250,000 for a 44-year-old Mt. Vernon man was charged Monday in Jefferson County court with multiple counts of armed violence in connection with an incident Saturday night in Bluford.

Robbie E. “Shady” Hayes is charged with two counts Class X felony armed violence. Each count is punishable by between 6 and 30 years if convicted.

According to Jefferson County State’s Attorney Sean Featherstun, Hayes was armed with a knife Saturday night when he was involved in an altercation at the Bluford American Legion.

The victim in the incident was airlifted from a Mt. Vernon hospital to a St. Louis area hospital where he had surgery on a wound to his neck. He’s reportedly in stable condition at this time.

Featherstun says the two charges against Hayes alleged that he committed the armed violence in a public place and that the action caused great bodily damage.

He notes that the incident was also captured on video surveillance and that additional charges could be possible.

Hayes has a history of criminal violence, including a 2000 conviction in Wayne County for armed violence.
