MARION COUNTY — Convicted in Marion County court of being a felon in possession of a firearm, a 35-year-old Salem man was released Tuesday on electronic monitoring until he begins his 8-year prison sentence on August 1.

Jamie Charlton was arrested in December 2017 after he and a Kell man were trying to sell a stolen gun.

Charlton was charged with Class 3 felony possession of a weapon by a felon, while Anthony Devor was charged with felony theft for having unauthorized possession of another person’s firearms, scope, TV and other property valued at more than $500.

Charlton was on parole at the time of the arrest and was returned to Department of Corrections custody to finish out his sentence on a 2016 methamphetamine conviction.

In exchange for his guilty plea to the weapons charge, meth cases from 2017 and 2018 were dismissed.

Following the completion of his prison sentence, Charlton will have to serve one-year mandatory supervised release.

He will be given credit for time served in jail and will receive day-for-day credit after entering IDOC.
