JEFFERSON COUNTY — The embezzlement trial in Jefferson County court of a former Webber Township School District administrator has entered its second week.

Jury selection began last Tuesday in the trial against 56-year-old Sabrina Wheatley, who is facing charges of Class X felony theft of government property in excess of $100,000, Class 3 felony official misconduct and two Class 4 felony counts of filing fraudulent tax returns.

Attorney General Lisa Madigan alleged in November 2016, that on two or more occasions, the former administrator for the school in Bluford illegally accessed the district’s account for the purposes of stealing more than $100,000.

Madigan issued a warrant for Wheatley’s arrest and she was arrested on the warrant in Florida, and Madigan’s office sought her extradition to Illinois to face the charges. If convicted, Wheatley faces six to 30 years in prison and the loss of her pension.

The investigation was conducted by the Illinois State Police and the Illinois Department of Revenue’s (IDOR) Criminal Investigations Division.
