JEFFERSON COUNTY — A Jefferson County jury deliberated almost 2 ½ hours Wednesday before returning a verdict of guilty on all counts against a 56-year-old former school administrator charged with embezzlement.

Sabrina Wheatley was convicted of Class X felony theft of government property in excess of $100,000, Class 3 felony official misconduct and two Class 4 felony counts of filing fraudulent tax returns.

Attorney General Lisa Madigan’s office prosecuted Wheatley on the charges, accusing the former administrator for Webber Township School District in Bluford illegally accessed the district’s account for the purposes of stealing more than $300,000.

The Class X charge has a mandatory sentencing of between 6 and 30 years in prison. Following the jury’s verdict around 1:30 p.m, Wheatley’s $25,000 cash bail was revoked and she was taken in to custody before being taken across to the Jefferson County Jail.

A pre-sentencing report was ordered and a status hearing in the case scheduled for 1:30 p.m. August 20.

Prosecutors presented evidence showing Wheatley’s lifestyle in Port Lucie, Fla., with expenditures that included a tummy tuck.

The trial lasted more than a week, with jury selection starting July 17. The jury was handed the case for deliberation around 11: 20 Wednesday morning.
