SALEM — A 66-year-old Odin man who was arrested in connection with a recently reported attempted abduction of a 15-year-old girl in Salem is being released from the Marion County Jail pending further investigation.

According to Marion County State’s Attorney Bill Milner, after consulting with the victim’s family and the investigating officer, it was felt that prior to proceeding with any potential criminal charges against Alan Hill, it would be best for any outstanding questions of investigation to be pursued.

Hill was taken in to custody after the 15-year-old female victim was shown a photo lineup and picked Hill as the man who attempted to abduct her.

According to Salem police, at approximately 10 p.m. Sunday, the young female was out for a run in Bryan Memorial Park in an area near the “dog park” just south of Salem Township Hospital.

A white male suspect reportedly drove past the victim, who was running north towards the hospital. The suspect then turned around at an unknown location and began traveling to the north behind the victim.

The male driver asked the victim to get into his truck but she refused. The male then opened the driver’s door and grabbed the victim by the arm and attempted to pull her into the truck.

Milner notes that once criminal charges are filed the clock begins running as to when a matter must be taken to trial, and issues such as double jeopardy can be attached.

He says that given the magnitude of the matter the investigation will continue and any and all information anyone has regarding similar recent events will be welcomed.
