MT. VERNON — Students will have to keep cell phones in their lockers at Mt. Vernon Township High School this school year. A new cell phone policy starting this year will not allow students to keep their cell phone with them during the school day.

MVTHS Principal Rowdy Fatheree says a recent survey of the school’s faculty showed that teachers overwhelmingly thought cell phones were a distraction in the classroom.

MVTHS Superintendent Jeff Fritchnitch says he understands any safety concern in an emergency. But, he says the school is committed to communicating with parents as quickly as possible.

There will be a letter explaining the new cell phone policy handed out to parents at registration.
