MT. VERNON — Mt. Vernon police are challenged in their investigation in to a Monday night shooting that sent one man to SSM Good Samaritan Hospital with two gunshot wounds.

According to Acting Police Chief Trent Page, officers have received limited cooperation from the victim and while the information they received indicated the shooting happened in the area of 19th and Conger, when officers and detectives searched the area they found no evidence supporting that claim.

Page said they are unsure if the Monday shooting is related to shootings over the weekend in the 1000 block of South Sixth or the 1900 block of Conger.

He said they have linked those shooting incidents, with the Sixth Street shooting apparently being in retaliation to the Conger shooting.

No one was injured in either incident, but Page say had officers received cooperation in those two incidents its possible they could have prevented Monday’s incident that resulted in one person being hit.
