JEFFERSON COUNTY — Two Mt. Vernon men charged with child pornography offenses appeared in Jefferson County court Tuesday.

Bail was reduced from $100,000 to $75,000 for 65-year-old Aaron Thomas and a pre-trial hearing was scheduled for August 28.

According to Chief Deputy Clint Taylor, Jefferson County Sheriff’s detectives began gathering information over several months before obtaining a search warrant for Thomas’ home where they seized a computer and other items.

Taylor says the computer was searched and child pornography was found. That evidence was then taken to Jefferson County State’s Attorney Sean Featherstun and he presented the evidence to a judge who issued a warrant for Thomas’ arrest.

Thomas was ultimately indicted on three counts Class X felony possession of child pornography depicting a child under the age of 13.

A few days after Thomas’ arrest, 31-year-old Nathan Hall was arrested on one count Class X felony reproduction of child pornography depicting a child under the age of 13. His bail was also set at $100,000.

According to court records, Hall knowingly, and “with the intent to disseminate, reproduced, disseminated, offered to disseminate, or exhibited a videotape, film or other similar visual reproduction by computer of Jane Doe, a child whom the defendant reasonably should have known was under the age of 13,” which showed the child engaging in a sexual act.

Hall was also scheduled for a first appearance Tuesday in Jefferson County court; however, his public defender reassigned the case to another attorney and the first appearance was delayed until Wednesday.

Both Thomas and Hall remain in the Jefferson County Jail at this time.
