MT. VERNON — A 33-year-old Mt. Vernon man wanted on a no bond warrant for failing to appear last week for sentencing in Jefferson County court was captured Thursday morning by Mt. Vernon police.

Rodney E. Moore was reportedly observed in the area of 1612 South 12th Street.

A Jefferson County jury found Moore guilty in May on charges of Possession of a Firearm by Felon and Possession of a Defaced Firearm. He had represented himself since shortly after his arrest.

He was scheduled for sentencing August 3, but failed to appear. Moore was sentenced in absentia to 10 years in prison. Due to his failure to appear for the sentencing hearing, a warrant was issued for his arrest.

After Moore’s sighting, the Mt Vernon Police Department Narcotics Detectives began conducting surveillance in the area and confirmed Moore’s location.

On Thursday morning police officers from the Mt Vernon Police Department and deputies from the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department responded to assist the narcotics detectives. Moore was taken into custody without incident.

Moore was transported to the Jefferson County Jail where he remains without bond.
