MARION COUNTY — Bail has been set at $25,000 for an 18-year-old Salem man charged Tuesday in Marion County court with Class 2 felony aggravated battery of a peace officer and Class 3 burglary.

According to Salem police, they responded to a report of a vehicle burglary in progress early Tuesday morning. Upon their arrival officers reportedly found Dylan Tate inside a van,

Reports say Tate initially cooperated with officers, but ultimately began to push officers as they were preparing to place him in handcuffs. At some point during the struggle, Tate and the officer fell to the ground and began fighting. A Taser was used, but had little affect, with Tate allegedly striking both officers while he was still on the ground.

A Marion County Sheriff’s deputy then arrived on the scene and Tate was cuffed. He was taken to Salem Township Hospital for treatment along with one of the Salem officers. Both were treated and released, with Tate then being taken to the Marion County Jail where he remains.
