MT. VERNON — A 25-year-old Mt. Vernon man is in the Jefferson County Jail following an incident Wednesday night involving a domestic dispute.

According to the Mt. Vernon Police Department, they arrested Tyler J. Williams when they responded around 9:35 Wednesday night to a report of a domestic dispute in the 700 block of Conger, that involved one person armed with a handgun.

Upon officer’s arrival they reportedly observed Williams in a vehicle at the front of the residence.

He was reported to be part of the domestic dispute and had just left the residence and entered the vehicle. As he exited the vehicle, officers reportedly observed a pistol inside.

After further investigation, Williams was taken into custody on charges of Possession of a Stolen Firearm, Possession of a Firearm with a Cancelled FOID Card, and Possession of a Controlled Substance.

He was transported to the Jefferson County Jail where he remains with bail set at $50,000. He was formally charged Thursday in Jefferson County court with Class 2 felony possession of a stolen firearm and Class 4 felony possession of a controlled substance.
