MT. VERNON — The Mt. Vernon Utility Committee presented its latest report to the city council at Monday night’s meeting. The report listed five water main projects they believe should take priority and can be accomplished in 2019.

The projects include replacing a 14-inch main on Waterworks Rd., an 8-inch main on Fountain Place, a 10-inch main on 17th St., a 6” main on Cherry St., and a 6” main on 24th St.

The committee also says work needs to be done at the Opdyke Tower and Lift Station #14 on the west side of the city.

Money to cover these projects are coming from grants, IEPA loans, the new sales tax, and other minor revenue sources.

The projects are a part of a 17-year comprehensive plan put together by the committee to replace and upgrade many aspects of Mt. Vernon’s water and sewer systems.
