MT. VERNON — Mt. Vernon Township High School is about a week into the new school year, and students and staff are both adapting to technology changes in the classroom.

This year, the school has adopted a policy barring cell phones from being on the student during class time. MVTHS Principal Rowdy Fatheree says so far, cell phones in the classroom haven’t been a big problem.

Students and staff are also getting used to having access to Chromebooks in the classroom. Jonathan Loucks is an Instructional Technology Specialist at MVTHS. He says even this early in the year, there are some creative ideas being used to educate kids with the technology.

Some teachers are already using the Chromebooks to have cross-department class lessons and the MVTHS administration believes the ways to educate will continue to grow as the year goes on.

You can hear the full interview with Fatheree, Loucks, and Freshman Academy Principal Sean Docherty on the Southern Illinois Insider this Sunday at 11 a.m. on AM 940, 96.5 FM, and also 94.1 FM, WMIX.
