JEFFERSON COUNTY — Three people arrested Friday in connection with the shooting of an individual in the 900 block of South 25th Street in Mt. Vernon have been formally charged in Jefferson County court.

All three defendants – 22-year-old Alexsis James, 19-year-old Isley Petties, and 19-year-old Roderick Burnett Jr. – have been charged with Class 1 felony aggravated discharge of a firearm at an occupied structure.

Petties and James were also charged with Class 4 felony obstruction, while Burnett was charged with Class 3 felony possession of a firearm without a valid FOID.

The three men were arrested after allegedly fleeing the scene of the shooting in a vehicle. Jefferson County Coroner Roger Hayse notified the Mt Vernon Police Dispatch Center that he was following the vehicle suspected of the shooting.

Officials with the Mt Vernon Police Department, Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department, and Illinois State Police pursued the vehicle north on Interstate 57 to a rural area west of Dix where they arrested the defendants.

Bail for the three has been set at $150,000 each and preliminary hearings have all been scheduled for September 26.
