CENTRALIA — Centralia police arrested two females Tuesday night when responding to reports of shots fired where a large group of people had gathered in the 300 block of North Maple Street.

According to reports, around 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, approximately three shots were fired in or near a group of 40 to 50 people.

Many of those gathered were reportedly fighting and arguing.

While most of the people left when police ordered them to disburse, 18-year-old Jazmin Fleener, of Centralia, and a 17-year-old juvenile female were arrested for alleged mob action and Illinois consumption of liquor by a minor.

Fleener was taken to the Marion County Jail and the juvenile was ordered held in juvenile detention until a Wednesday morning court appearance.

No injuries were reported in the Tuesday incident. Central City and Wamac police, along with Marion County Sheriff’s deputies and K-9 Unit responded for assistance.

Those involved in the incident were reportedly uncooperative with police when questioned about the reasons for the mob gathering and the shots being fired.

Anyone with information about either is urged to contact the Centralia Police Department at 533-7602.
