MT. VERNON — A 20-year-old Mt. Vernon man was sentenced Tuesday in Jefferson County court to 7-years in prison after he pleaded guilty to felony battery of a police officer.

Kymir McGee pleaded guilty to Class 2 felony aggravated battery to a peace officer, in exchange charges of Class 4 felony aggravated fleeing and Class 3 felony criminal damage to government property being dismissed.

McGee was arrested in July after ramming a Jefferson County squad car following a high speed chase.

Deputies said they witnessed a vehicle fleeing the scene of a reported domestic dispute at an address on Park Avenue.

Mt. Vernon Police were able to deploy stop sticks which flattened the vehicle tires. At that point, McGee reportedly made a U-turn and rammed one of the Jefferson County squad cars.

A 28-year-old bystander in the street reportedly threw a trash can in front of one of the squad cars in an attempt to slow the squad car.

He was arrested for reckless conduct and criminal damage to state property.
