SALEM — Salem police arrested a 24-year-old Salem man Saturday after he allegedly fled the scene of an incident where his dog reportedly bit someone.

According to Salem Police, while in the 500 block of North College Street a dog owned by Cody Ferrell allegedly bit a man standing next to his truck.

Knowing he would have to turn the dog over to animal control, Ferrell then reportedly fled the area with his dog.

Police later found Ferrell hiding with his dog in a large culvert in Miller Park, where he initially refused police commands to come out.

When Marion County Sheriff’s deputies responded for backup, however, Ferrell surrendered and turned over the dog.

Police report the dog had previously bitten another person.

Ferrell was taken to the Marion County Jail for allegedly concealing the whereabouts of an animal and resisting or obstructing arrest.
