MT. VERNON — The Downtown Christmas Committee has announced this year’s Christmas Parade Theme. The theme for this year’s parade will be “Christmas Through The Ages.”

The committee held a contest among all Jefferson County 5th – 8th graders to create a theme for this year’s parade. 8th grader Ethan Verdeyen from Casey Middle School submitted the winning theme. He will receive a pizza party for his class along with getting to ride in the parade.

The parade will be held this year on Saturday, December 1st at 5 p.m. The route will start on Main from 7th St. to 10th St., then continue on 10th to Broadway, and Broadway from 10th back to 7th St. The tree lighting ceremony will immediately follow the parade on 9th St. between Main and Broadway. Weather permitting, a vendor fair will be held from noon to 4 p.m. on 9th St. between Broadway and Main.

The festivities are supported by Mt. Vernon Convention and Visitors Bureau, Downtown Mt. Vernon Development Corporation, downtown merchants, and other community businesses on the committee. For more information, you can call Melynda Breeze at 242-2800 or the Mt.
