(BENTON, IL) — Due to a high number of workers compensation claims the city of Benton has at this time and with premiums going up due to those claims, the city council is looking to reduce claims. At Monday night’s city council meeting, the council received some information from Southern Illinois Healthcare regarding a work care program it offers. The city recently met with representatives from SIH about its worker compensation premiums and referred to an experience modification rate with one being the average modification rate. Commissioner Dennis Miller told the council anything below one means you are doing a good job of controlling worker compensation claims. If it’s above one, then you’re doing a bad job of monitoring and controlling those claims. Miller added the city’s rate is just over 2, so the city needs to become proactive when it comes to worker’s compensation. According to the Benton Evening News, the council hopes to make a decision about the program next month.
