(SALEM, IL) — Bail has been set at $500,000 for a 48-year-old Sandoval school board member who is in the Marion County Jail charged with sex crimes against two children. Darin Brandt was formally charged Wednesday morning in Marion County Court with two counts Class X felony predatory criminal sexual assault of a victim under the age of 13, and one count Class 1 felony criminal sexual assault of a victim under his supervision. Special conditions of release if Brandt is able to post $50,000 cash bond are to have no contact with the alleged victims or be unsupervised around anyone under the age of 18. He also is to have no contact with the Sandoval Schools. Brandt was given time to hire a private attorney and a preliminary hearing is scheduled for February 15, at 11 a.m. Brandt is running for re-election to the school board in the April Consolidated Election. If he is re-elected and subsequently convicted of a felony, an immediate vacancy would be created on the board that would have to be filled.
