(MARION, IL) — Emergency personnel in Marion will have a new tool to try on a trial basis to help them in traffic in case of an emergency. The Marion City Council Monday night approved using the Opticom priority control system for 60 days. The system is designed to allow emergency personnel to control signals in order to get through traffic quicker. It will be set up on West DeYoung Street where it meets North Carbon and Russell streets and at the intersection of Illinois 37 and 13. If the city finds the system useful after the trial period is over, it will look at putting the item in the budget and find ways to fund it.
