(SALEM, IL) — Salem police are warning motorists that starting at 9 o’clock this morning, traffic lights at the intersection of West Main Street and Westgate Avenue – the intersection by Max Dye and McDonald’s — will be non-functioning due to power line and power pole upgrades. The outage is scheduled to last approximately 3 hours. The Salem Public Works Department will place temporary stop signs at that intersection to assist with traffic control until the lights are once again functioning. Please use extra caution when travelling through that intersection during the scheduled outage. Also, the Brown Shoe cleanup was scheduled to begin around 6 o’clock this morning. The public should expect to see the water tower being cut down in pieces first thing today. Be aware that Mitchell Street between College and Maple Streets will be closed for the duration of the cleanup, which may take 30 days to complete.
