(SALEM, IL) — A 57-year-old Centralia man has been sentenced to 21 months in prison after he had earlier filed an open plea of guilty in Marion County Court to the lesser felony DUI-related charges against him. Dickie D. Whipple was arrested in January by Centralia police over for what was at least his sixth DUI arrest. Centralia Police arrested Whipple in December after his pickup truck crashed into a home on East McCord in Centralia, knocking a hole in the home’s foundation. Whipple was charged with Class X felony DUI, Class 2 felony third DUI, Class 4 felony driving while license revoked or suspended from a DUI more than four but less than nine times, misdemeanor DUI. He was also issued multiple traffic citations and has remained in the Marion County Jail since his arrest, with bail set at $30,000. In exchange for his open plea of guilt, the Class X felony and the misdemeanor were dismissed and Whipple was convicted of the Class 2 and Class 4 felonies. He was sentenced to one year and nine months on each count to be served concurrently. He was also ordered to pay $1,250 in court costs, while restitution will be argued on August 30. Whipple was last sentenced in 2008 to 4-years in prison after being convicted in Marion County of his fifth DUI.
