(BENTON, IL) — The Benton Police Department’s new K-9 officer Ranger was injured after being attacked by several dogs at his handler’s home late Sunday night. Officials say the incident happened around 10 when four dogs owned by Officer Mark Wilkey’s neighbor turned on Ranger and jumped on his back in an unprovoked attack. Ranger was out of his pen when the attack happened. That’s according to a report in the Benton News. Ranger suffered minor injuries and was taken to a local vet for treatment. Police say charges are pending against the neighbor.
