MT. VERNON — Electricity expense was at the forefront of the Mt. Vernon District 80 Board Meeting on Monday night.

The board learned that it could save approximately $23,000 annually on energy costs by changing its supplier and broker of electricity when the current contract expires in 2019. The district could save $18,000 per year by locking in a cheaper rate through Affordable Gas & Electric during. a presentation from AGE.

The board did not take action on changing its supplier or broker. The board did approve a memorandum of understanding with Spero Family Services to provide counseling services beginning with the current school term.

The board also approved laying over the tentative 2018 fiscal year budget for a 30-day public comment and then set the next meeting for Sept. 20. School registration compared to last year and reimbursement money owed by the state was also discussed.
