The Flora Police Department announced Monday that it will be adding a dual purpose, tracking and narcotics detection canine to their department.
According to Police Chief John Nicholson, Sgt. Jeremy Ruger will be going later this month to select a pre-trained K-9 from Vonne Liche Kennel’s in Denver, Indiana where they will undergo a 6 week training program.
This new K-9 unit is possible by utilizing funds received through drug arrests, fines, fees, forfeitures and donations.
Nicholson says the K-9 unit will be utilized in several roles for the police department, including narcotic detection, suspect
apprehension, school searches and tracking of missing persons.
Nicholson warns drug users, dealers and those who travel through the community with illegal narcotics to know, “The Flora Police Department will maintain constant pressure on them and their activities, and will now have an extra set of eyes to watch them and more importantly to literally “sniff” them out!”
