A suspect accused of shooting three people, including a teenager, in Central Illinois was arrested after he shot himself Monday.
Police in Taylorville were called out around 5 a.m. Monday after a 13-year-old and two other people were shot inside a home on Walnut St.
The victims were treated at a local hospital before being transferred to a Springfield hospital. Their conditions have not been released.
Later in the morning, police began searching for 43-year-old, Lee Wayne Kennedy in connection with the shooting.
He was last seen driving a white 1996 GMC Sierra with an extended cab truck and police said they believed he could be headed back to southern Illinois as he is from this area.
Kennedy reportedly stole a car from a dealership in Hillsboro.
On Monday afternoon, schools in Hillsboro were put on lockdown. School officials said the car belonging to Kennedy was located in Hillsboro.
Police reports say Kennedy later robbed the Colonial Pantry in Stonington, Illinois around 3 p.m.
Officers then spotted Kennedy on a rural road and started to chase him. The chase ended when Kennedy hit the curb in front of Taylorville Memorial Hospital.
He then got out of the car with a small handgun and shot himself in the head. He was taken inside the hospital before being transferred to a hospital in Springfield.
According to police, one of the shooting victims has a valid order of protection against Kennedy for an ongoing domestic violence situation.
The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office said they were aware of the suspect and deputies were out patrolling for the vehicle. Court records Indicate Kennedy had lived in Washington County
