Two semi drivers were not hurt in a crash involving their semis just after 6 Wednesday night in Franklin County.
Illinois State Police say a 1998 Freightliner, driven by 54-year-old Mario A. Dalpra of Wooster, Ohio and a 2013 Freightliner, driven by 57-year-old James L. Manier of Grantsburg, were both going north in the right lane on I-57 at mile post 74.5 when Manier’s semi slowed for traffic ahead and failed to perceive the speed difference. Dalpra’s semi struck the rear Manier’s semi causing both vehicles to jack knife and come to rest in the roadway.
I-57 was closed at the scene until 8:45 p.m. when the left lane was reopened to traffic flow. During the closure, all traffic was diverted off at the Benton exit. Both lanes reopened shortly thereafter.
Dalpra was cited for following too closely and failure to reduce speed to avoid a crash.
