A traffic stop earlier this week resulted in Altamont police arresting three people and seizing more than 260 pounds of marijuana.

According to police, an Altamont officer conducted a traffic stop on a minivan early Monday morning and ultimately discovered approximately 265 pounds of marijuana inside the vehicle, along with numerous deodorizers and fabric softeners in an apparent attempt to mask the odor of the marijuana.

Law enforcement estimates the street value of the marijuana to be between $750,000 and $1 million.

Police arrested 22-year-old Tyrell A. Jones of Chesapeake, VA, 22-year-old Jamil Q. Taylor-Kamara of Virginia Beach, VA and 22-year-old Joseph Allen Jr. of Lancaster, PA.

All three subjects were charged Wednesday in Effingham County court with Class X felony trafficking of more than 5,000 grams of cannabis.

Bail for each defendant has been set at $50,000. If they post bond they will be allowed to leave the state if they sign extradition waivers.
