The Department of Housing and Urban Development Tuesday allocated over $143 million in annual grant funding to housing authorities in Illinois.

Some local counties made the list.

Jefferson County will receive $709,799 and Marion County will get $1,043,919. Franklin County will get $1,530,929 while Hamilton County will see $131,300.

The grants, from HUD’s Capital Fund Program, help public housing authorities to build, repair, renovate and/or modernize the public housing in their communities. These housing authorities use the funding to complete large-scale improvements such as replacing roofs or making energy-efficient upgrades to replace old plumbing and electrical systems.
