Researchers in the College of Agricultural Sciences at Southern Illinois University are partnering with the Illinois Farm Bureau and the Illinois Nutrient Research and Education Council (NREC) to host a June 12 field day showcasing their work to area farmers.

This event not only allows farmers to see innovative research, but also allows the local community to learn about practical conservation methods for their own farms.

The field day will at University Farms. Topics will include: Integrating wheat as a cover cop for nitrogen management in corn cropping systems. The impact of cover crops and saturated buffers on water quality is another topic at the field day. Discussion will take place on whether to graze cattle on cover crop fields. The impact of seedling diseases of soybeans will be discussed. And finally, the use of cover crops in integrated weed management.

The event will begin at 9 a.m. and includes lunch along with student demonstrations. Entry is free, but registration is required. Register at illinoisnrec.org
