Vandalia firefighters fought an overnight fire at a local steakhouse for hours Monday, but the restaurant and a neighboring insurance office were both lost to the blaze.

According to reports, around 11 p.m. Monday, a fire was reported at the Capitol View Steakhouse in the 400 block of West Gallatin Street in Vandalia.

Upon their arrival a few minutes later, firefighters could see flames coming through the roof of the steakhouse and called for mutual aid.

A neighboring insurance business was also lost in the fire, with the steakhouse considered to be a total loss.

No injuries were reported, but due to the amount of damage caused by the fire the State Fire Marshal’s Office was called to investigate.

The cause of the fire is unknown at this time. Firefighters remained on scene for several hours to put out hot spots.
