A 33-year-old Mt. Vernon man is scheduled to be sentenced Thursday in Jefferson County Court after he earlier pleaded guilty to three Class 2 felony counts aggravated criminal sexual abuse of a victim under the age of 13.

Charles Mick was found fit to stand trial last summer on multiple charges of sexually assaulting two children.

He was arrested in August 2016 and charged with three Class X counts predatory criminal sexual assault of a victim under the age of 13 and three Class 2 felony counts aggravated criminal sexual abuse of a victim under the age of 13.

The three Class X charges were dismissed in exchange for Mick filing an open plea of guilty to the three Class 2 charges. A Class 2 felony is punishable by between 3 and 7 years in prison. But with an open plea there is no sentencing agreement in place.

The investigation showed Mick committed the sex acts against one victim in March of 2015, and against another victim between 2006 and 2009.

Mick remains in the Jefferson County Jail, with bail set at $500,000.
