Senator Dale Fowler and Representative Dave Severin Monday expressed their support for placing an advisory referendum question on the Williamson County ballot regarding 2nd Amendment rights.

The Williamson County Board in June voted unanimously to put an advisory question on the November general election ballot that would advise them on whether to pass a resolution stating their support for the 2nd Amendment and disapproval of gun control legislation coming out of Springfield.

Since that time, Board Chairman Jim Marlo has tried to get the board to agree on the language of the ballot question. In Illinois, ballot question language must be voted on and certified with the County Clerk by Aug. 20 in order to be placed on the ballot. The final opportunity to vote on language will take place this Friday at 9 a.m. in the county board chambers.

Both Severin and Fowler believe that they want voters to have their voices heard on this issue and want the 2nd Amendment protected.

Over 25 counties in Illinois have officially declared themselves via county board resolution as “sanctuary” counties for gun owners. Others, including Southern Illinois counties such as Johnson, Randolph, Massac, Pulaski, Hardin and Madison are opting to put an advisory question on the November ballot asking voters if their county boards should pass a resolution expressing support for 2nd Amendment rights.
