BENTON — One person was injured in a single semi rollover crash on northbound I-57 in Benton around 2:50 Tuesday afternoon.

According to Illinois State Police, 57-year-old Jose A. Palacios of Harlingen, Texas, was driving his semi north on I-57 at mile post 74 when he reached for an item in the cab and drifted off the roadway. The semi entered the right ditch and rolled onto its passenger side.

Palacios was not injured. His passenger, 56-year-old Deanna P. Palacios of Harlingen, Texas, suffered minor injuries and was taken by ambulance to a local hospital.

The right lane was closed briefly to clean the roadway of debris but was reopened. Once towing operations began at 4:15 p.m., the right lane was closed. All lanes were back open at 8:15 p.m.

Palacios was cited for improper lane usage.
