MARION COUNTY — A two-vehicle crash Saturday night on U.S. 50 at Omega Road claimed the life of a 91-year-old Iuka man, while three  others were airlifted to St. Louis area hospitals.

According to Illinois State Police, around 9:15 p.m. Saturday, William Borcherding was traveling southbound on Omega Road when he failed to yield at the intersection with U.S. 50. Borcherding’s vehicle drove into the path of a car traveling westbound on U.S. 50 that was driven by 32-year-old Megan Hays, of Salem, and which struck the driver’s side of the Borcherding car.

Hays and an 83-year-old passenger in the Borcerding vehicle, Emma Rose Bercherdin, were airlifted o St. Louis University Hospital in St. Louis, while an 8-year-old girl in the Hays vehicle was airlifted to Cardinal Glennon Children’s Hospital in St. Louis.

Iuka firefighters and rescue personnel responded to the scene.
