MT. VERNON — This is National Fire Prevention Week and the Mt. Vernon Fire Department is getting the word out about how to prevent fires in your home.

Aaron Shook is in charge of fire prevention and public education at the Mt. Vernon Fire Department. He says along with their normal duties, firefighters are busy this week going to public events, schools, and other venues talking to residents about fire safety.

Shook says having a home escape plan preplanned is essential for your family if the unthinkable were to happen at your home.
