MARION COUNTY — The Marion County Sheriff’s Office is searching for the driver of an SUV that led deputies on a lengthy high-speed chase Tuesday night.

According to reports, deputies attempted a traffic stop around 5 p.m. Tuesday night on Route 161 near Raccoon School. Instead of stopping, however, the driver allegedly sped up and headed southbound on Interstate 57 with speeds reaching up to 110 miles per hour.

The SUV eventually took the Dix-Irvington Road exit before heading west to Boyd Lane and then Piedmont Road where the SUV jumped a ditch and drove into a field where the driver jumped from the vehicle and fled on foot into a wooded area.

A passenger who was in the SUV remained in the vehicle and after questioning was released. The SUV was impounded and law enforcement continues to search for the driver.
