MT. VERNON — Spring leaf burning period is quickly approaching in Mt. Vernon and Mt. Vernon’s Fire Chief Kevin Sargent has announced this spring’s dates for burning.
Burning will be allowed the second full week of April between April 8th and 14th, and also the second full week of May between May 13th and 19th.
A leaf burning fire will be permitted during these periods between the hours of sunrise and sunset.
No burning is allowed on any public street, sidewalk, draining ditch within the public right-of-way or manhole cover, or on the property of another person without written permission.
All types of fires must be attended to by someone at least 18-years-old at all times.
Burning of any kind may be prohibited during any leaf burning period by the Fire Chief’s order due to high winds, dry conditions, or other factors.
