WHITE COUNTY — A Carmi woman is facing drug charges after an officer working for the Crossville Police Department pulled her over Thursday night on Hamill Street in Crossville and found out she was wanted on an Edwards County warrant for theft after running her plates.
The White County Sheriff’s Office says in a press release the officer pulled 39-year-old Sarah F. Taylor over into a private drive in the 400 block of Hamill Street and spoke to Taylor who was the only person in the vehicle.
The officer asked Taylor to step out of the car and advised her of the warrant for theft. After putting her in handcuffs, the officer begin his search of the vehicle.
The officer searched a purse and found a black makeup bag. While inside the bag, the officer saw 2 baggies containing what appeared to be crystal meth. Also, in the bag was a cut straw with white powder residue, 3 pipe pokers and a torch lighter. Taylor was then escorted by the officer to the patrol car and was placed in the back. Taylor told the officer she was claustrophobic, and the officer placed the handcuffs in front of her to try and relieve her anxiety.
The officer then returned to the vehicle and continued the search. A glass bong and a glass pipe were found wrapped in paper towels inside of a Walmart sack in the back seat on the driver’s side. The bong and pipe had white powder residue and the pipe also had burnt markings consistent with smoking meth. An open box of baggies was also located in the back seat. A small baggy with white residue inside of a backpack was found in the trunk.
Taylor’s purse, the suspected meth and meth paraphernalia were collected by the officer and placed in the squad car.
The car was towed from the scene, and Taylor was taken to the White County Jail where she was turned over to correctional officers.
The officer field tested one of the baggies containing the crystallized rock substance and it tested positive for meth. A field test was also done inside of the glass pipe and it also tested positive for meth. Pictures of the positive tests were taken. The three baggies combined weighed 1.09 grams.
Bond on the Edwards County warrant for theft was set at $150. Taylor was additionally charged with possession of methamphetamine, use prohibited and possession of drug paraphernalia.
